What Is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is a collaborative and forward-looking process where a trained professional partners with clients to identify and achieve personal and professional goals. Through focused questioning, active listening, and accountability, a life coach empowers individuals to gain clarity, unlock their potential, and develop actionable strategies to navigate challenges and create a more fulfilling life. It differs from therapy by concentrating on future aspirations and personal growth rather than addressing past psychological issues.

What is The Process Like?

The process of coaching is a dynamic, collaborative, and forward-looking journey designed to help individuals unlock their potential and achieve their goals. While specific approaches can vary between coaches and clients, a general coaching process typically involves these key phases:

1. The process begins with a free introductory session. This is an opportunity for the potential client and coach to get to know each other, discuss what the client hopes to achieve, and for the coach to explain their methodology. It's crucial to ensure a good "fit" and chemistry.
2. Once both parties agree to proceed, a formal coaching agreement is set. This outlines the logistics (session frequency, duration, cost), confidentiality, and the roles and responsibilities of both the coach and the client.
3. Early sessions are dedicated to a comprehensive exploration of the client's current situation, their values, strengths, challenges, and what they truly desire. The coach helps the client articulate a clear vision for their future and define specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals.
4. The client, guided by the coach, explores what's holding them back (e.g., fear, self-doubt, external circumstances) and what resources they already possess or need to acquire (e.g., skills, support networks, knowledge).

The coach acts as both a supportive ally and a gentle challenger. They encourage the client to step out of their comfort zone, confront assumptions, and consider new ways of thinking and behaving. This challenge is always delivered with empathy and respect.

5. Based on the insights gained, the client, with the coach's guidance, designs specific action steps and strategies to move towards their goals. These actions are practical, manageable, and aligned with the client's vision.

Periodically, or at the end of the coaching engagement, the client and coach review the overall progress made against the initial goals.

    About Me

    I had a working-class upbringing in Manchester, I am the eldest of five children from a family that blends Welsh and English heritage.

    My early educational experience was challenging, leading me to leave school with limited qualifications and a feeling of underachievement. However, a transformation occurred when I returned to education as a mature student after raising my three children. This period ignited a passion for learning, revealing a strong aptitude for academic pursuits and affirming my intellectual capabilities.

    My diverse professional journey has encompassed roles from sales assistant to product manager, and from teacher to training manager. Across these varied positions, a consistent thread has been my involvement in training and education, underscoring a sustained commitment to developing individuals and teams.

    Building on this passion, I pursued formal coaching qualifications in 2006, achieving a diploma in High Performance Coaching verified by the University of Teesside. Since then, I have had the privilege of coaching professionals at all levels, with a significant focus on supporting senior managers in achieving their objectives and unlocking their full potential.

    My mission in life now is to help women, like myself who have been scarred by living and dealing with an alcoholic partner.
